J & S Fishing Club
J & S Fishing lake was established back in 2005 by Scott Johnson, Scott still has an active role with in the club today.
The lake was part of the old Rearsby airfield, the airfield started in around 1936 and saw active work in ww11 repairing Hurricanes, Typhoons as well as few larger aircraft. Most locals know the airfield for its Auster aircraft then it becoming Rearsby Automotive in the 60’s.
So what of the fishing? Well when Scott took over the lake in 2005 it needed a lot of TLC to bring it back to life. There was however some stock in the lake from when it was run as a Bream fishery some 10-15 yrs earlier.
Work started on restocking and replanting with the first lot of stocking being carried out by Framingham fisheries who stocked round 2 thousand sliver fish.
Jon Wall carried on further stockings up until 2008, Jon stocked a mix of Carp, Tench and is still helping us with advise and knowledge on fishery welfare today. J & S Fishing are also proud members of the Angling Trust
The lake has always been run as a members water following Scotts idea of members retreat, Tim Hill joined Scott on his mission to create to lake to what it is today.
Being approximately 2 ½ acres in size with depths up to 19ft along with interesting features to find, fishing can be a challenge as well as rewarding. With Carp to 30lb + Tench to 10lb Roach over 2lb Rudd to 2lb and Bream to near 15lb there is plenty to go at. But saying that do not think this is a runs water. Stocking was carefully carried out to create a thinking anglers water somewhere to test your water craft. Get it right and you could break some personal bests.
With a limited amount of members per year there is a calm chilled atmosphere about the lake. It never gets busy, theres no silly rules, theres non of the riff raff you seem to find at some commercial waters these days.
J & S is somewhere you can bring the other half infact we now have a few female anglers and partners that come along just to chill. With an abundance of wildlife from Kingfishers to Owls fishing is just the icing on the cake.
Access to the fishery is to members only through locked gates, there is also a toilet on site. There are club events to get involved in like work parties, fun days and the annual Christmas pub meet.
Club members also get discounts from local tackle shop Soar Tackle plus other specials.
