1st L.Cooper 16lb 2oz (peg 3) 2nd I.Foster 9lb 6oz (peg 2) 3rd R.Schindler 9lb 2oz (peg 42)
Les won easily on the day with an all roach net caught on caster or pellet on the pole at 7 and 3 metres. Ian on the next peg was runner up with all roach bar a few perch, again using pole with pellet at 7 metres or maggot at 3 metres. Robbie, making a rare appearance took third spot with a net of roach taken at 2 metres on maggot and 9 metres on pellet on pole lines.
Overall result for series (Best 6 results from 8)
1st Les Cooper 2nd K.Duncton 3rd I.Foster
Overall wooden spoon 'winner' is............drum roll....................... Bobby Nash! (As voted by The Good,The Bad and The Ugly!)
Well done to Paul Oakland on his first year fishing the matches with some decent results along the way.
Thanks to all who attended,it has been a great series with some close contests and good weights of roach caught. The carp refusing to show after the first couple of matches or refusing to budge from the reeds when hooked. |

Away Day at Eden Meadows
Pegged on the top lake 'Cherry Tree' eleven competitors took part on a hot sticky day,the match was fished for five hours (9.30 - 14.30) with everyone catching, some better than others.
1st N.Palfreyman 17 lb 7 oz (peg 2) 2nd B.Nash 15 lb 6 oz (peg 6) 3rd P.Foster 14 lb 13 oz (peg 3)
Nick done exceptionally well to win using pellet over to the far side and paste in the margin, catching carp to 2lb,ide and roach for his first match win. Second placed(Mr Spoon) Bobby used mussel or pellet to catch carp up against the sedges including a decent one of approx 6lb. Paul took third spot, firstly catching roach and ide shallow on caster then switching to under the far bank tree for carp and ide on meat.
Most people hooked and lost a few decent carp and many had some good fish including ide to 3lb,others struggled no matter what they tried.Overall it was a reasonably fair match with many other participants weights being close to framing.
Les Cooper is now the proud owner of 'The Wooden Spoon'

Winter Series Rd 3
We had a nice pleasant warm but slightly breezy day on Silksworth today for the third match in the Winter series. All competitors were pegged in the top half of the lake either in the bay or opposite on the cone.Everyone caught today with plenty of bites for most.
1st Ian Foster 8lb 14oz (peg 10) 2nd A.McNeil 8lb (peg 11) 3rd B.Nash 5lb 3oz (peg 27)
Ian went from zero to hero, putting last weeks blank firmly behind him to win the match and erase the bad memories.Fishing groundbait feeder at 30 metres towards the post he caught roach ranging from a half ounce to 12 ounces before switching to the waggler to catch more of the same plus small perch, all fish taken on maggot. Andy using the same tactics kept up his good form coming second from the next peg to Ian,he also had the same fish but of a smaller stamp, plus a lucky carp of 7lb (counts as 1lb in Winter series rules). He was fortunate to get it ,not because he was fishing light for roach, but because he cast his waggler out which detached from the adapter and after looking to see where his float went picked up the rod with the carp on.Jammy sod! Third placed Bobby using mag and wag had roach and perch also to keep up his recent good results.

Winter Series 4 Results
The first frost of the year arrived but never put the fish off the feed, all anglers were pegged around the top island using both banks.
1st I.Foster 6lb 3oz (peg 25) 2nd C.Bunnett 4lb 3 oz (peg 27) 3rd R.Turner 3lb 8oz (peg 12)
Ian won for the second week running, this time pegged on the opposite bank and with an island chuck.Using maggot as hookbait and starting on the groundbait feeder he caught a few small roach and gudgeon before switching to the waggler. He continued switching tactics catching steady through the match, his net being made up of 90% roach, with rudd, perch and gudgeon making up the rest, most fish being in the 1 - 3oz bracket with 1 roach going over the pound mark. Second was Colin with a bigger stamp of fish but fewer using feeder tactics also, before switching to waggler, again maggot being hookbait choice. Roger was third casting to the island with a maggot feeder and maggot on the hook for a mainly roach catch, one being over a pound.

Winter series Rd 5 result
1st R.Gillett 10lb 3oz (peg 27) 2nd I.Foster 5lb 15 oz (peg 26) 3rd S.Mears 4lb 12 oz (peg 24)
On a overcast grey day it was Roy who won comfortably with 5 bream and a few roach.Using groundbait feeder with pinkie or maggot he caught his first after 10 mins which prompted him to stay on the feeder, which proved worthwhile. Second was Ian,starting on the feeder then moving to the waggler he was biteless after 1 1/2 hrs. Therefore was grateful that amongst his net of small roach he had a bream of 1lb 8oz to boost his weight. Third was Sammy with a net of roach using either groundbait feeder with pinkie or waggler with maggot.

MD friends please read,I received this from our club secretary.
A note to all members and supporters of our club I have been notified that a group of local residents inend to form a friends of sillsworth lakes group. A draught constitution has neen drawn up and they have several councillors backing them. They will be having a public meeting at a later date of which they will inform me.(Now confirmed 30/11/2011) We need to get as many people there as we can and get some of us on this groups committee.I am sure you have all heard anti angling rumours around the lake so we need anglers on this committee so we can get our info from the horses mouth as they say. I shall post on here and get up dates on our web site as I get more info.
Meeting to be held at the Lakeside Community Centre,Lakeside Village,North Moor Lane.Sunderland at 7 pm on 11th November 2011. We are trying to get as many supporters as possible,I thought I would throw it to the MaggotDrowner family, any support/advice welcome.
Thanks
