Had a great session on Miltons Tuesday.Peg 19. Arrived at opening time 7am.And it was raining-(not in the script) It eased off at 8am and then the skies cleared for a heatwave. It hit 29c. The lake was flat calm.Fish crashing in the lily pads and fizzing in the margins. I fished five sections of pole with a Bazzerla 4x12 float,Preston PR21 16 hook, feeding with green micro pellets and hemp at about 10m straight out and in the margins. Hookbait was sweetcorn with an occasional change to soft expander pellet. Bites started immediately but the crucians (as always) and the tench were extremely finicky. Brainwave- I'd read that sometimes just the sweetcorn skin will do the trick.so I squeezed out the centres of the kernels and eureka bold bites all through the session.Who says Tench don't feed in the middle of the day? Anyway I fished until 5pm and although not keeping an accurate tally (no keepnets allowed) I must have had at least 80lb of fish mainly crucians to 2lb, approx six tench to 4lbs,one beautiful Rudd ,roach and bream. A perfect days fishing and the drive back home through the Mole Valley Surrey countryside was a bonus. Sorry no photos I was too busy catching.

Good tip there mate, will have to try that
Was there on sat and managed to get in peg 20 had a similar result to you but used soft pellet and double red maggot, it is a great place.
As you say corn seems to be a dodgy bait there, only fish that took it confidently were the 'flying' bream. |

I fished Miltons today and had a great time despite it being a bit chilly and a family of ducks deciding they were going to sit in my swim for the best part of 3 hours, making feeding difficult.
I'm a reborn angler (see here; http://www.maggotdrowning.com/forum...&whichpage=3), and I went to have a look at Bury Hills Saturday afternoon after seeing it on t'internet whilst looking for venues... ended up going down bright and early this morning (5.30am) for a solo session.
I fished peg 4 against the lilies. Tried several different baits, but almost all fish came on single red maggot - I was loose feeding maggots and caster over some green groundbait and hemp.
Caught a lovely 4lb commmon 2nd cast, and 5 fish in I had 5 different species. Ended the day around 5pm with a dozen crucians to 2lb (1st crucians I've ever caught), a couple of tench, a lot of roach, perch and bream (to 4lb) plus some absolutely stunning rudd. Had a couple of breaks off early on (more commons I assume) and think I may not have got the feeding quite right as I must have missed a thousand bites.
Loved the lake as it reminded me very much of a place I used to fish as a kid... very pretty.
Would love to hear suggestions for other venues in the area I could try.
Cheers, Chris |

landau,
Not sure about Dorking water for flying bream
It happens on one of my club lakes too, 'expert' opinion I have heard suggests it might be down to being hooked in relatively shallow water

Went again last Tuesday(16th Aug) and had an even better day.It was just one of those sessions where everything went right.Miltons Lake peg 19.Weather was cloudy but warm with a slight ripple. Fished pole at about 4 metres?Cupped in a good helping of Swimstim green pellets with hemp and sweetcorn close to lily pads to start.Alternated soft pellets and sweetcorn skins on the hook with occasional punched meat.Bazzerla float dotted right down, bait on the deck.I reckon I had a fish every other put -in.Very few blank periods in the day. Crucians(up to 2lbs) and tench(to 4lbs) with roach, rudd and bream constantly thru' the day. I fished from 8am till 5pm. Left then to avoid the dreaded M25 traffic-tired but happy. I was thinking of going again tomorrow 23rd Aug. but the forecast is horrendous.Wednesday looks better. |

Lily pads in the margins not the big patch in the middle. Roll on Wednesday. |

Hi Landau, sounds like a great session How much and how often are you feeding?
I fished Miltons a 2nd time a couple of weeks ago and switched to 4mm soft pellets on the hook over a mix of 3mm green swim stim and hemp. Had a lot more success than the 1st time (c.30 crusians, c.20 tench and the usual roach & rudd), but still ended up having a period in the afternoon where I was getting loads of bites but not hitting them.
Going to give it another go on Sunday. |

I've never used a pole... how much is a 'small toss pot'? I've been feeding a good pinch every other cast.
I did notice that when I caught tench the bites weren't really any different to the Crucian bites... I always remembered Tench bites as being quite bold when I was fishing as a kid, but some of these are just the smallest of knocks.
Should get the peg I want as I'll be there at opening... and I'm off Monday to Wednesday too, so I'll probably have another session on Miltons at some stage and one on Bonds - fished Bonds last week and had 21 Carp between 6lb and 9lb.
Cheers, Chris |

Turned up at 5.30am Sunday morning and there was a sign up saying only pegs 5-17 were open as there was a match on... bit of a pain as I wanted 3 or 4. Had a look round and ended up on 8.
Wasn't a great day to say the least... had a couple of tench straight away, followed by a couple of roach. Then nothing. For a couple of hours. Then one foul hooked Crucian. Then nothing for an hour. Then the bream turned up for a bit and I took 10 pretty decent sized fish. Then nothing. I went through the full range of baits (soft pellets, maggots, corn, bread), just couldn't get a bite for most of the time.
The whole lake was dead... the boys in the match were bitching like mad as they'd been told it was 'fishing its head off'... half of them didn't catch anything.
Around 3pm I moved to the main lake and had a few hours catching some decent Tench from a quiet peg up the top end.
To make matter worse I managed to break a crown trying to get a shot off my line!
Had a great time Monday and Tuesday on Bonds though... will write that up in a separate thread. |

Don't give up on Milton mate,
Had a similar experience a while ago when I turned up sunday and it was booked for a match - never again, just give them a ring to check would be my advice now.
Anyway the white van man panza crew drove up to lake, and dumped off their gear, after much f' ing and blinding sorted the swims out and after returning dumped 2 keepnets into every one of the booked swims.
My catch rate from peg 16 (I think) suddenly dropped off.
After about 3 hours of constant moaning from the match boys about how c r a p this lake is and never gonna fish it again etc... I decided to pack up and go home.
