Maggot Times - July 2002

- This weekend we hosted the 'Northern Fish-in', the largest charity Fish-in that the north of England has ever known. Our aim was to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Relief and we think we have succeeded with over £5,000.00 being collected.

The 'Fish-in' was organised  at Elvington Lake, Nr York  with the aim of raising funds for the charity, Macmillan Cancer Relief (Reg. Charity no. 261017).
Mr Stan Britton offered us the free use of his fishery for the weekend of 27/28th July
and all 40 pegs for the weekend at a price of £20.00 per ticket were sold within a couple of weeks raising £800.00.
With the support from various fishing tackle shops we had items donated for a raffle with the aim of selling 3,000 (or more) raffle tickets with a face value of £1.00. The tickets were sold before, during and at the event and on-line through several fishing websites, which agreed to link back to us.

- Healy Group All Ireland Open Championships 2002.

Sunday 28th July 2002. Loch Gowna, Co. Cavan.

The National Coarse Fishing Federation of Ireland's premier event, the Healy Group All Ireland Open Championships is due to take place on Sunday 28th July 2002.
This is the 3rd year of the Healy Group sponsorship. The Healy Group is a leading supplier into the Food, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industries in Ireland and the UK and the NCFFI are delighted to be working with Healy Group to make this event a huge success.
This year the event has changed venue with the village of Loch Gowna hosting the event for the first time in almost 10 years. This aptly named "Village of the Lakes" plays host to Anglers from all Over Ireland and the UK, with a turn out in excess of 200 anglers expected for this prestigious 1 day event.

Preparations for the event are progressing with the assistance of the Northern Regional Fisheries Board and the host club Loch Gowna & Upper Erne Anglers Association. Sincere thanks to both organisations for their hard work on this event so far and to all Landowners who allow us to cross their land for access.

The Competition is open to all anglers with Senior Juniors and Ladies Section prizes on the day. The draw for pegs will take place at 9.00am in The Piker's Lodge, Loch Gowna, Co. Cavan. The draw is limited, so anglers are advised to come early.
The presentation of prizes will take place at 6.30pm in The Piker's Lodge and all are welcome.

The NCFFI look forward to a successful Healy Group All Ireland Championships and encourage all Seniors, Juniors and Lady anglers to participate and wish all competitors "Tight Lines" for the event.

- English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) - the governing body of disabled sports, has recognised the work of the BDAA and after 6 years of hard work we will be able to deliver what we intended. The BDAA/ EFDS partnership, will insure that disability angling will enter a new era and now receive the support and funding it rightly deserves. EFDS quotes "Itís a disabled persons right, not privilege to participate in sport and this partnership will see it become a reality".

Anglers with disabilities can finally see a major advance in the disability sector and plans are already underway for some dramatic changes for the better to help all disabled anglers in the UK .
