Hi peeps, fished monks fishery bulkington for the first time today, not much on the tip but loads of skimmers to 2lb and nice roach on the pole. Bait wise skinned corn or 2/3 maggots. No nets except in matches.

Good pegs and vey quite

Have you got a close up Google maps satellite view of where this is, I might take a look next time I'm over Makins way.

Something like this for Mill Farm...

Was that accidentally unhelpful or deliberately obtuse ?

What are there opening times, and how much are the day tickets?

Thanks in advance

I'm local to this place and if i had to choose 1 place it would be here. The fish are in superb condition, they fight like stink, good variety of species. The place is well looked after and generally the pegs are all of good quality.
Day tickets were £6, reduced after a certain time in the evening.

As for baits almost anything works, maggot & corn in the colder periods, meat and pellets all of the time. No boilies allowed and only groundbait in feeders. Dog biscuits in the summer off the top is a killer for the carp that cruise in packs. The margins into the evening are a good place to drop into but don't fish too light a line. Reports of fish close on 30lb are in here and even the upper single fish will have your rod in if you turn your back. My best out of here is 18lb but definitely bigger ones exist.

Fished a match there a few years ago and the winner was close on 100lb but everyone was catching well.

Well worth a visit.

A very helpful first post .

How close to dusk do they close, as I prefer to fish short evenings after work once the clocks change at the end of the month.

I fished here for the first time on Friday afternoon. As I had to drive past Makins Phase 2 to get there I stopped for a look and Lagoon and Lizard were both quite busy with pleasure anglers.

On arrival at Monk's Pool there was no-one fishing there! First impressions are that it is a very pretty well maintained pool with wide grassy banks and flat concrete slab pegs. It is fully surrounded by an assortment of attractive trees and bushes, with large willows on the islands.

The rule board showed fairly standard commercial rules with barbless hooks only, no keepnets, boilies or spectators. The owner quickly turned up to take the money (£7 for one rod, £8 for two) and was friendly and did say it had been busy earlier in the week.

There was the odd carp visibly cruising out by the islands, which suited my preferred main method of surface fishing. Feeding mixers got one or two carp rising but it was 1¼ hours before the first one was landed. More carp turned up as the day progressed and the evening action was much better, boosting the surface total to eleven carp, mostly 8-9lb, with two smaller about 5½lb each and two better at 12lb and 12½lb.

A sleeper float rod dropped in the margins out of the way by a small water lily bed didn't produce anything big, even in the evening. A 1lb crucian was the low highlight, plus a few tiddlers (roach, bream, perch and gudgeon). A brief attempt fishing this rod shallow at range under the rising carp produced a 4lb carp and three 12oz-1lb bream.

The only minor negative points are that access is using a 250m bumpy single lane track with no passing points, with two blind corners that need care. There is also train noise every few minutes, but it's not overly loud. The toilet block is behind the bungalow at the start of the track if needed for sit down action, so may need the car to get there.

The closing time is currently 8pm.

A return trip here yesterday afternoon, to a much busier fishery. There were 8 or 9 pensioners fishing there when I started but all apart from one had left by late afternoon.

The surface fishing was good again with twelve carp from 4lb to 10½lb, mostly 6-7lb. These seem fairly standard results, based on this blog report http://idlersquest.blogspot.co.uk/2...visited.html.

A sleeper float rod dropped in the margins out of the way only produced a 6lb carp. A brief attempt fishing this rod shallow at range under the rising carp only produced a 6oz roach.

Add "groundbait in or on feeders only" to the rules in the post above. The rules are obviously there to discourage proper carpers using heavy gear, but seeing the remaining pensioner drag a couple of good carp in and net them with their head half pulled out of the water while using his feet to move the landing net was not a pretty sight , so perhaps they should add a maximum rod test curve to the rules.

The closing time is now 7pm.

Tried to fish here yesterday but the gate was shut with a "Closed until further notice" sign with no further explanation. Hopefully only as a precaution for spawning stress in this heat, anyone know any details?

Thanks for the response marcusp. That's a shame to hear, Dave (assuming he's the owner) was always friendly when he took the day ticket money.
