About 95% of the match lake is now free of ice.

10 anglers turned up for todays match.

1st Joe Thompson 27lb+ peg 45.
2nd Eddie Marsh 20lb+ peg 47.
3rd Gary Etheridge 3lb 8ozs peg 21.

Joe had a good day as he also won the 'silvers' match.
Both 1st and 2nd were the only 2 to catch carp and made the weight up with silvers
Eddie in 2nd was a bite (sorry bit) unlucky, as he lost 3 carp.
I think most fish were caught on maggot.

We might be having a small match tomorrow.

There was no match today, so a bit of practise for me.

Most of the lake had a thin layer of ice cover this morning, but there were a few free pegs.
I chose peg 48 on the causeway, and caught/landed my 1st fish of the year,( a 1lb 4oz skimmer) and lost 2.

I was told yesterday Paul that they have lost a lot of fish up there over the cold snap, must have been tough going if Gary Etheridge could manage only 3-8 of silvers, mind you that was still more than my 2-4 (a skimmer and a perch) on Viaduct Match Lake but it was enough to win the match!

Hi Steve.

Well done on your win, but that weight was surprising from there.
They all count though. It's all about being best on the day.

99% of the fish deaths are ALL on the Old canal section, apart from 2 found on the New Canal section.
Pete has closed it and is going to dredge it, and then re-stock, but it will take time.
I think the problem comes from all the leaves that fall in there, and being fairly shallow, the fish don't have any depth to go to. That is purely my opinion.
All the debris has accumulated over the years,so is probably in need of a good clean.
Paul.
