There are some players that seem to have been around for ever and must be a managers dream.

One of those IMO is James Milner
He has played all over the park except in goal,is consistent week in week out, superb reader of the game, tackles well with a great engine and has always been a very skilful player.
Was excellent in both games against City and his move back into Liverpool's midfield has been one of the catalysts for the stylish way they are now playing.

Does he ever really get the full credit he deserves and did England drop him to early - I think no and yes.

Another for me is Carrick

Over to you guys

Totally agree. Another one in that same bracket in my opinion is Mark Noble

Yep Milner from the era and mould of the Gareth Barry type too. Carrick been injury plagued and heart issues, hence he is calling it a day at the end of the season.

Another feature though of that era was and may be is, Carragher etc too, was to not seem overly unhappy if they didn't make England squads and in some cases count themselves out, so am not sure whether they were dropped by England or they dropped England.

But yes workhorses for their clubs and loyalty to their clubs is clear. Shame really as you look a Milner type and think exactly the type needed to give the current England team some backbone.

I agree with you too Pheo, maara.
I would still have him in the
England squad.

My sons fiancée used to play for Doncaster belles. James Milner was best mates with her brother. When it was her birthday last year they went out locally for a meal and James came over after playing so he could join the party. Normal down to earth lad by all accounts.

So the experience playing for Swindon Town did him a world of good.
