New Boilers start at around 526 on Screwfix, but it's around 1200 for a Worcester-Bosch (which is supposed to be the make to go for if you want it to last more than 5-minutes) + another small fortune to get the thing fitted.

You dont need a new boiler because a drain cock is leaking. Bungs in the header tank and drain a couple of pints off it locks out and change it. Does the boiler fire up on when you put it on manual?

New washer in the drain cock then refill/repressurise the system. Clearing air. Will take an engineer an hour ish to do as long as it's not air locked. Boiler probably not firing as the pumps not pushing any water around.

Might sound a daft suggestion but have you tried nipping up the drain cock a little?

Don't over do it though in case you split the washer inside

I know its not a combi, the reason i ask is if you have hot water it means the boiler is working and its a fault with an external control. So do you have hot water?

As Dave says even if you are short on tools a pair of pliers will suffice to just tighten it up. This might stop the dripping then top up the system

Are you getting the hot water using an immersion heater/switch?
